I can't count the times I've heard someone say that. Sometimes, it's a doctor or teacher or police officer. But whoever they are, I’m always flattered, because to me, it’s one of the highest compliments you can get in this industry. It says you are part of the community, not just passing through to the next gig.

And when that happens, people trust you. In fact, that’s the currency of the journalism trade. Trust. In television, it’s the reason they let you into their homes at 6&11.

I’ve spent the brunt of my career in just two markets, Atlanta, Georgia and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, both of them among the best in the country. Over those decades, I’ve done just about every job there is in a newsroom, as well as a few they don’t teach.

For me it was never enough to just be an Anchor/Reporter. Storytelling may be the seminal part of what we do, but photography, editing, and producing are equal facets of the same diamond; and you'd be wise to know how to do all of them. Online engagement is equally vital and will completely change the business, which is why it wasn’t enough for me to merely contribute stories on the web. I also learned how to build websites to distribute video and publish content of my own.

What I bring to the table is a gold-standard of trust, execution and an innate knowledge of precisely how the media works. It’s my ability to create relevant narratives in real time and control the message with unshakable confidence that gives me a unique advantage to help any person or company that operates in the public eye.
